Nearly 100 people attend the 2008 Pure Mendocino Farm Tour & Picnic; Plans Underway for 2009!
Each year the Pure Mendocino Farm Tour and Picnic offers a taste of a different Mendocino County growing region. The 2008 focus was on Potter Valley, just north of Lake Mendocino off of Highway 20. Nearly 100 people, including guests and neighbors, joined the August 2008 Pure Mendocino Farm Tour & the 'sold out' Picnic held at McFadden Farm and Vineyard. The event was co-sponsored by the Ukiah Natural Foods Co-op. The day began with a walking tour of the farm, led by Luke Miller & Guinness McFadden. Later, guests relaxed and took in the peaceful surroundings as Co-op staff and volunteers served a delicious picnic luncheon under a shady grove, the perfect spot to enjoy the farm-fresh food on a warm summer day. The meal was generously accompanied by McFadden’s own grilled meats and wines.
Plans are now underway for the 2009 event scheduled for the weekend of August 28-30, 2009.
Food, Environment: & Health: Making the Connection
“The goal of the farm tour,” said CRCMC Founder, Sara O’Donnell, “is to encourage people to learn more about the connection between food, the environment, and health. We want everyone to learn more about our Pure Mendocino partners and the amazing resources Mendocino County has to offer,” added O’Donnell.
The 2008 event location was made possible by the support of farmer Guinness McFadden, who has been farming organically for 37 years. He and his family ranch organic cattle, produce culinary herbs, Guinness McFaddenand grow seven varietals of award-winning organic wine grapes on their northern Potter Valley farm. “We are so pleased to participate in Pure Mendocino, because of the support CRCMC offers our community,” said McFadden.
